Most students are unable to do homework at home because they do not have electricity. She Shines has donated solar lights to 30 year 8 students. Few of the families in these villages have access to reliable electricity. Because of this, even when girls want to study after school there are only a few hours in the day which this can be done. These daylight hours are often taken up with other daily tasks like cooking, cleaning and collecting fresh water.
These lights help the girls to study after dark to improve their education. Furthermore, they can be used to provide light to the whole family, making it easier to perform even the most basic tasks after dark.So far we have provided lights to one school. These have been passed from one year to another and the teachers have told us that they have seen a marked improvement in the girls education as a result.
